Wood County Special Olympics to Host 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Dolores A. Black Gymnasium and Athlete Banquet
Bowling Green, OH – Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities (WCBDD) and Wood County Special Olympics (WCSO) are proud to announce a special event celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Dolores A. Black Gymnasium, along with a heartfelt Athlete Banquet, on Thursday, August 22, from 5:00–7:00 PM. The celebration will take place at the Dolores A. Black Gymnasium, located at the Bowling Green Community Center: 1245 W. Newton Road.
This event is open to the public and designed to honor both the legacy of Dolores A. Black—a passionate advocate and champion for inclusive recreation—and the outstanding athletes who represent Wood County Special Olympics.
“The Dolores A. Black Gymnasium has left a lasting impression not only on our athletes, but on the entire Wood County community,” said Brent Baer, Superintendent of the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
“For 20 years, this gym has served as a gathering space for competition, connection, and celebration. It represents opportunity, inclusivity, and the spirit of community. We’re excited to take this opportunity to recognize our incredible athletes and the vast, robust Special Olympics program that continues to thrive.”
Throughout the evening, attendees will enjoy light refreshments, athlete recognition, and special tributes. “This gym means so much to our athletes and our program,” said Jen Krouse, Wood County Special Olympics Coordinator. “It’s a space where confidence grows, friendships form, and accomplishments are celebrated. I’m incredibly proud to be part of the Special Olympics team here in Wood County, and beyond grateful to the coaches, volunteers, and families who support our athletes every step of the way. Their dedication truly makes this program what it is.”
