Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the Universal Changing Unit?
Universal changing units are designed to accommodate adults and children with disabilities, along with their caregivers. They are equipped with the items necessary to provide individuals served and those with mobility limitations a safe, clean, and dignified place for personal care.
Why would an event want to reserve the Universal Changing Unit?
Why not is the question?! The Universal Changing Unit truly transforms the lives of people of all ages with disabilities, along with their caregivers, by providing a safe, hygienic, and dignified space to address their personal needs. Allow your event to be a true, INCLUSIVE event, by making everyone attending as comfortable as they can be.
Can the unit be used for infants and toddlers?
Absolutely! The unit is intended to be inclusive for anyone who needs the use of a lift and/or changing table to complete hygiene or self-care needs. The unit includes an adult-size height adjustable changing table with side railings to promote accessibility and safety during use.
Should the Universal Changing Unit be parked front and center?
The purpose of the trailer is to assist people with completing hygiene and self-care tasks. It does NOT need to be the front and center of your event. The placement of the trailer promotes privacy and dignity for those who are using it. The unit also requires electrical hookup and includes optional water hookup. These hookups and the overall size of the unit often limit placement options
How much does it cost to reserve the unit for an event?
The unit is FREE to reserve for community events within Wood County and surrounding areas, by approval.
Who will staff the unit during the event?
Staff support to clean and maintain the trailer is determined on a case-by-case basis. There will not be staff in the unit at all times throughout the event.
What if I forgot to bring our sling for the lift?
The intention for use is that the patron will provide their own sling and hygiene supplies. There is contact information displayed in the unit. If you forgot your sling, we do have backup options available upon request.
What hygiene supplies are included in the unit?
We have disposable chuck pads, gloves, soiled brief bags, handwashing sink and soap, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies available in the unit. We do not have briefs or wipes available.
What do I need to do to reserve the unit for my event?
Please complete our request for reservation form on our website, located at the bottom of the page. We will have additional questions regarding the requirements for reservation and will work with your agency to ensure the requirements are met. Generally speaking, the unit requires electrical hookup (standard 110 outlet or 30 AMP connection), signed loan agreement, Certificate of Insurance Coverage, and about a 25 foot by 13 foot space on concrete or blacktop. The unit has optional water hookup or fresh and grey water holding tanks.
How much notice do you need for our reservation?
We ask for at least a 2-week notice to collect all of the needed paperwork and to coordinate the staffing needed to deliver, setup, maintain, and pick up the unit. The more advanced notice the better! It is never too soon to reach out!
Is the trailer kept unlocked at all times during use?
Typically, we will schedule someone on-site to lock the trailer overnight and unlock in the morning, as needed. Hours of operation are determined in collaboration with the hosting agency.
What if my event is on the weekend, will you still deliver and pick up?
Yes, we can accommodate weekend events. We do ask that the delivery and pickup occur on a weekday immediately before/after the event.
