HOW TO BECOME A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

There are two ways to become a Direct Support Professional:

Agency Providers

are organizations who have employees that work in a variety of settings such as residential, employment, transportation, day services, and drop-in support. Agencies provide Direct Support Professionals with:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Regular pay periods
  • Benefits
  • Trainings/certifications
  • Billing

Independent Providers

are self-employed and gain certification to provide support to Individuals as Direct Support Professionals.
Being self-employed and certified through the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities allows the Direct Support Professional :

The ability to be flexible with their schedule

Choose who they are working with

             Manage their own billing

             Maintain their own trainings/certifications.
